The following scholarships
are only available to Maori students at secondary school and are administered
by the Maori Education Trust.
Maori and Polynesian Secondary School (Course)
Scholarships
For Maori and Polynesian students attending any State school or registered
private secondary school. Payment is only available where there is no
secondary school the student can reasonably be expected to attend which
provides a course of instruction appropriate to the students need
while the student lives at home. The scholarship is renewable. Closing
date: 7 December 1999, Value: $1990,

Maori and Polynesian Secondary School (Distance)
Scholarship
For Maori or Polynesian students attending a State or registered private
school, where there is no secondary school the student can be reasonably
expected to attend, because of distance. This scholarship is renewable
provided the students
home address does not change. 70 scholarships of $1990 per year. Closing
date 7 December 1999.
Maori and Polynesian Special Needs Scholarship
Available to students who are physically or emotionally at risk in their
current environment and must move to another area for schooling. This
scholarship is renewable provided the student continues to require assistance.
Applications are accepted throughout the year. Variable amount of scholarships
of $1990 offered per year.
Maori Education Trust Top-up Scholarship
For students who are awarded a Maori and Polynesian Secondary Scholarship
and may need additional funding. No application necessary. Variable numbers
of $310.
The Regional Health Authorities Maori Health Scholarships
Available for sixth or seventh form Maori Students who academic ability
and who are studying Science and Mathematics. Closing date: February 14
1998 Value $500 Number 20.
R J Graham Secondary School Scholarship
Scholarship for 6th and 7th form Maori students with demonstrated academic
merit, studying Te Reo Maori and/or English, Information Technology and/or
Science. Forty scholarships offered of $500. Closing date for applications
31
March 2000.
Rose Hellaby Secondary School Scholarship
Scholarship to assist third form students with the purchase of a school
uniform and school books. Based on financial need and academic merit.
One hundred scholarships offered of $500. Closing date for applications
31 March 2000.
Sister Anne Henry Secondary School Scholarship
Scholarship available to direct descendants of the Reverend John Laughtons
family. If no applicants fill this criteria it is open to students of
Tuhoe descent, then to other Maori. One scholarship of $700 is offered.
Closing date for applications is 14 February 1998.
Ti Maru Trust Secondary Scholarships
This scholarship is available to third form Maori students with demonstrated
financial need academic ability and aptitude, who wish to attend a secondary
boarding school. Closing date: 31 March 2000, Value: $1,000 Number: 8
Ti Maru Trust Secondary Scholarship and Maori
Education Trust Overseas Scholarship to assist Maori students
at fifth, sixth or seventh form level with
overseas travel who have qualified for programmes such as AFS or Rotary
Exchange. Closing date: 31 March 2000, Value: Up to $1,500 Number: 20
Sister Annie Henry Secondary Scholarship
This scholarship is available firstly to direct descendants of the Reverend
John Laughtons family, then to those students of Tuhoe descent,
then to other Maori.
Closing date: 31 March 2000, Value: $700, Number: 1
VW & LM Rosier Scholarships
This scholarship is available for seventh form Maori students with academic
merit, studying Maths and two Science subjects in the seventh form. Closing
date: 31 March 2000, Value: $500 Number:6
